The four days of the 2010 Sea Me workshop were blessed with glorious weather. During our boat trip onboard “Nereus” and our shallow waters excursion we were able to study life in the sea while the sun was shining and the sea like a mirror.
Some students were curious to find out why some of the animals looked different depending on where they lived. Other students wanted to examine what kind of food crabs and starfish preferred. After carefully designed experiments all students had exciting results to report in the auditorium. All participants and also scientists from the laboratory attended their lecture. The students very ably argued their studies with the scientists.
As a last challenge everyone took part in an all-social evening scavenger-hunt. The bonding between the schools made the early morning breakup somewhat sad but maybe we can all meet again!

The theme for this year’s workshop was communication between organisms in the sea. Despite the raging sea we managed to get to the Långholmen island and in the field the students observed different ways animals searched for food and to what potential enemies they reacted. In the lab the students then searched for explanations to their observations and discussed how to set up hypotheses they could test. In groups they performed experiments, all with exciting results. (see Presentations under Scientific work). The final stage of their research, was to present the studies to all participants and to some of the scientists working at Tjärnö. All students were defending their work in a real scientific way.
In the evenings we all relaxed with lots of funny games. It was wonderful to see how the language, country and culture barriers between the students vanished and how they all enjoyed being together.
