• S.E.A. M.E. will promote the importance of natural sciences, stimulate interest and encourage students in secondary schools to continue studying natural sciences.
• S.E.A. M.E. will develop inquiry-based learning methods based on the concepts of scientific reasoning. The practice and knowledge from the experiences of S.E.A. M.E. will become supporting aids for teachers to use as inspiring tools in natural science teaching.
• S.E.A. M.E. will by bringing together students and teachers with leading scientists in marine biology, under the formula of designing and practicing hands-on science, create a dynamic dialogue between all participants.
• S.E.A. M.E. will promote the image of scientists and science as a career.

Students will during a 4-day workshop, at a marine research station in beautiful natural surroundings, get to know and cooperate with fellow students from different European countries. Together they will meet and discuss with scientists. They will practice asking scientific questions and in groups be able to design and execute a small-scale experiment of their own as well as document their work. They will understand a scientific way of thinking and acquire tools to use when working scientifically. They will in addition learn about marine ecology as they perform research hands-on.

Teachers will get the opportunity to discuss and consult with scientists at Department of Marine Ecology and with fellow teachers from different European countries. They will get advice and support in the methodology of teaching inquiry-based science through examples in marine ecology.

Participating Scientists will benefit and gain experience from SEA ME. They will practice communicational skills through discussions with students and teachers and also through presentations of their own scientific work. They will supply teachers with suggestions for experimental work in marine ecology.

All participants (students, teachers and scientists) will during the four-day workshop be involved in a scientific dialogue with marine ecology as topic. This will enhance communication between students, teachers and scientists. It will also add to the understanding and co-operation between education and research as well as stimulate the interest for natural science.

Furthermore, all participants will be part of this interactive website as a contact venue, but also as a site for inspiring facts, information and suggestions for studies in natural science.
